Harris School Direct trainee, Primary

I decided to become a teacher after spending the past eleven years working as a teaching assistant in a primary school. Prior to that I had taken a seven-year maternity break from my previous career as a management accountant. A friend of mine, who as a teacher herself, encouraged me to work in a school as she felt it would suit me - she was right. I loved working as a TA and EAL coordinator and I am now looking forward to starting my journey to becoming a 'real teacher'.

After studying for a degree in Education Studies and working for so many years in a school, I felt I would be ready for the challenge and sufficiently prepared for learning while working. I chose the School Direct route as I thought it would best offer me the appropriate challenge and experience.

The support and training that I have received thus far have been truly excellent.  The ITE team offers a very caring approach to training with a great deal of thought given to our well-being as well as to supporting us in our journey to becoming qualified teachers.

I love the fact that the Harris School Direct Programme combines the theoretical part of the PGCE with the practical knowledge and experience gained while working in a classroom from day one. There is also a great benefit to working within the Federation as I have come to really value the opportunity to observe and learn from so many great teachers both in my academy as well as in other Harris Academies.
